Re: In Search Of Talented Writers

1. I love character-driven action films.

2. I’m most definitely a visceral writer.

3. I’d give my writing a score of 8.

4. I consider my niche to be the action genre, especially when protagonist is a flawed antihero. But I’d really love to explore horror/thrillers in the vein of Angel Heart and Jacob’s ladder.

Re: In Search Of Talented Writers

I am an AFI award-winning writer-director with over 20 years experience. My micro-budget thriller, "Stomping Ground" premiered in 2016 and has been submitted to a number of festivals.

With nearly 50 screenplays to my credit including 3 produced features, 2 documentaries and countless shorts, I call myself a generalist.

Maybe even more important than being a talented writer, I think of myself as a good listener. My feeling is that, by the time a producer decides to hire a screenwriter, they have already seen the movie in their head and, as a writer for hire, it is my job to hear what they want to make, understand the parameters of their budget and then craft something that satisfies their desires.

In that role, I have had to become a generalist who can put as much creative energy into a rom-com as I put into a political thriller, drama or horror film. As a script doctor, university screenplay professor, screenplay competition judge and workshop mentor, I encounter a wide range of writers, stories and degrees of talent and I pride myself on being able to help everyone.

Please feel free to contact with me if you have any questions.

Feature Script 1:

THE CURSED (WGA registered)

Page Count: 138pp
Genreemoticonrama

Logline:

Four extremely dangerous inmates are at large after escaping from women's prison.

Synopsis/Details:

Lynn Logan, a child who was abandoned by her mother at the age of 6 and taken by protective services at the age of 10 because of physical abuse she endured at the hands of her father and placed in an orphanage, goes to jail directly from the orphanage at the age of almost 18, because she kills one of the orphanage nuns who was both physically and verbally abusive to her since the day she was left in the orphanage. Having no happy day in her life, now, at the dawn of her youth, she is sent to prison for eleven years feeling betrayed by both her parents and life..
In prison she meets three more girls who ended up in prison by a dirty trick of life and feel the same way, betrayed and neglected by life and by the people they loved. These three girls are: 21-year-old Melyssa Ross Toback, who was wrongfully convicted based on false confessions and sent to jail for drug trafficking, for the crime she didn’t commit. 20-year-old Kacie James, who got in prison for a murder of one of her schoolmates. And, 21-year-old Reagan Wiles, who was sentenced to sixteen years for premeditated murder and attempted murder of her rapists.

Four years later, girls come up with a prison break plan which involves a prison riot and succeeds. Except Melyssa, who is killed by the guards while breaking, the rest three girls, Lynn, Reagan and Kacie manage to escape from prison. Now they are at large. And the next part of their plan involves seeking revenge on everyone who is responsible for their imprisonment.
First of all they find a secure place to hide. Then the first thing Lynn does is to find the guy who gave false evidence against Melyssa. She finds and kills him.
After this, the girls go after Kacie’s ex-boyfriend who was primarily involved in Kacie’s imprisonment. They find him in a bar with his friends and a gun fight breaks out among them as the result of which Kacie ends up dead and Reagan gets recaptured by the police.
Now only Lynn is at large and Reagan is being interrogated by federal agents to find out Lynn’s whereabouts, with no success though. Meanwhile, Lynn finds her mother’s address which is in a different state, and burns her whole family alive at their house.
After murdering her mother’s family, Lynn comes back for Reagan. She helps Reagan escape from the police headquarters and they pick up where they left off.
The next thing they do is to kill Reagan’s two rapists who survived her first murder attempt. But Reagan gets killed in the process too.
Now Lynn is all alone and desperate. She finds her father’s new family and kidnaps his two children. Threatening to kill the children, she demands that he come and meet her alone. The police is already with her father and their first attempt to arrest Lynn when meeting her father, fails.
Finally, the police finds out the place where Lynn is hiding and surround the location. They have to be very careful as Lynn still has the children. With an STF operation they succeed to get into the building where Lynn hides. Lynn refuses to surrender and is shot to death. But there is no sign of the children. The police start considering the possibility that they may already be dead too.
In the final scene, the children are found safe and sound at home when the police drive Lynn’s father and his wife to their house.

Feature Script 2:

DON'T HURRY TO JUDGE (WGA registered)

Page Count: 90pp
Genre:Romance

Logline:

A young businessman is trying to earn a simple student's heart which he broke due to a big misunderstanding.

Synopsis/Details:

Kaden is a young businessman who values decency and morality above everything and cannot stand people who lead low lifestyle. Bree is a student in a university who values humanity above everything. She tries her best to be helpful for everyone who needs help.
The movie begins with a busy morning when Kaden, at his family house, is getting ready to go to his office and Bree, on a busy street, is preparing to shoot a film on a social experiment about the people’s attitude to drug addicts. At the last moment, the actress who was supposed to play the drug addict hooker, refuses to come and Bree has to play her herself. Ironically or accidentally, Kaden, on his way to the office, is driving through the street where Bree is shooting her film. And he sees Bree playing a drug addict on the street in a hooker outfit. But he doesn’t know that they are making a social experiment video so he takes it as a real life situation and he thinks Bree is a real drug addict and hooker. The kind of people he cannot stand. In addition to this, he meets Bree once again, on the evening of the same day, in a bar from where she walks out with an old man. Once again he thinks she is a kind of prostitute. But actually, Bree was escorting an old tenant back to the care home where she volunteers.
Later Kaden meets Bree in a party and also their house as his sister invites her. But Kaden turns Bree out of the party as well as their house as he thinks she is not a proper person to be around them. Bree is confused and humiliated. She thinks she is being treated this way only because she is poor and he is rich. Ironically she starts a part time job in the company where Kaden is the manager. Of course, Kaden fires her from the job too, as soon as he sees her there. He also warns her to stay away from his sister.
But later Kaden finds out from his sister the truth about the scenes he saw on the street. He realizes his big mistake and his conscience starts tormenting him. So he decides to work hard to earn Bree’s forgiveness. But it is not so easy. He hurt Bree so bad that she does not even want to see him.
In the beginning, it was only about earning Bree’s forgiveness. But in the process, Kaden falls in love with her as he sees her real lifestyle. Now he works hard to earn her heart. And he eventually achieves his goal. But unfortunately, Bree hears his phone conversation with his friend where they discuss some business related matter and, Bree misunderstands their conversation. She thinks they are talking about her and Kaden was around her pretending to care for her just because he made a bet with his friend. She immediately stops all the relations with him and she even does not let Kaden explain the situation.
But Kaden decides not to give up and to earn her heart back again. In the end of the movie, Kaden, his friend and his sister arrange a trip where all the dark points become clear and Bree realizes her misunderstandings too. And there we have the happy ending.

I've written over 60 screenplays, mostly high concept family comedy, and I am happy to kick ideas back and forth if you have a concept that needs developing.

Re: In Search Of Talented Writers

Classical/farcical comedy, I would say. I have written a 90 page comedy. I have pilots for what could be considered maybe an online comedy series. I was hoping to upload examples of the comedy in pdf format. But it doesn't appear to be able to. Just so you could see what the writing is like. I watch all sorts, Jaws, the Marx brothers. Mainly comedy. Scary movie 1,2. Dumb and Dumber. But the 90 page comedy I've written isn't like that. Old b/w pictures from the 1930's, 1940's. The Big Sleep. The Maltese Falcon. The english Carry on pictures. The 90 page comedy screenplay synopsis: Harry goes to the bank on Monday morning. While waiting in the bank, there is a bank robbery. The bank robbery doesn't go according to plan. The takings van has been and gone, they've missed it. So they take a hostage, Harry. Harry objects to being a hostage, so half way down the road after escaping. The bank robbers kick Harry out of the car. The police are following and on seeing Harry, identify him as a bank robber. The bank robbers see this turn round and go back for Harry. The police somehow end up with 4 flat tyres and can't follow the bank robbers. The bank robbers take Harry back to their flat. He meets Julianna, George's sister. Julianna goes off to work. The bank robbers tie Harry up and put a hood over his head, again. They go to do a small job intending to come back later. The next door neighbour alerts the police after hearing 'funny' noises coming from next door. They arrive, break in and take Harry to the police station. Believing Harry is an informant for the bank robbers he is questioned, charged and incarcerated without even a lawyer. Sgt Harder, who believes Harry to be one of the bank robbers. Has to be constantly told by his superior, the chief inspector. That Harry is not one of the bank robbers. Sgt Harder continues to believe Harry is a bank robber. The bank robbers return to their flat and see Harry has gone. They are informed of such by the next door neighbour. Next morning, the bank robbers dressed as policemen and wearing beards. Go to the police station and rescue Harry. He is completely unaware. It's at this point that Sgt Harder accuses Harry of being a spy in front of the chief Inspector. The chief inspector has to remind Sgt Harder that Harry is not a spy. The bank robbers having rescued Harry from the police station. Take him back to their flat. The police eventually work this out and go to the bank robbers flat. The bank robbers see the police arrive. And dressed as women, and after a fight with the police, Sgt Harder and co. The bank robbers escape in their getaway car. George the lead bank robber decides to turn himself in. He gets a lighter sentence for doing so. But not without Julianna's help. She does fetish work for high court judges. And is able to pursuade the judge to help her brother, George. You're probably going to read this and go, wtf? Harry lives near the bank which is in Belgravia, very expensive posh part of London. The bank robbers are from the east end of London. So there's a bit of a culture clash. But Julianna, George's sister gets on very well with Harry. Any inquiries plz email me at upursareswipe@[sign in to see URL]

Re: In Search Of Talented Writers

1) I enjoy intense dramas and bizarre multi-genre pieces and my writing is geared towards that, but I like to keep an open mind with each project I take on.

2) I create surreal, visceral, carefully constructed stories that dissect love, morality, oppression, identity crises, alienation and stagnation by catapulting characters into absurd, almost comically juxtaposed worlds where they must use self-examination as a tool for escape and redemption.

3) "Swell", a psychological drama - In a time of poodle skirts and sock hops, a dejected teenager struggles to escape her off-kilter family whose lives are filled with atomic bomb drills, oppressive rules and addiction.

4) I am a solid 9.

5) I have been branching off into more fantasy driven scripts and enjoy it, but still believe character is king.

Feel free to contact me for a sample of my work.
