Re: In Search Of Talented Writers

Hi, I'm Steve and I'm new here (but been writing for years). To answer your questions:

1) I write comedy and love to watch comedy. I've been writing more thrillers lately though as they seem to be more marketable and I have to pay the bills :^)

2) I suppose you could say I'm a classic writer, with punchy dialogue, terse action descriptions, and an erudite wit

3) Sure, mack, "What's the Big Idea?" is about a pair of junior suits who chance on a muckle of specs and jive them up as their own, but must shake a leg before a wet sock gums the works.

4) C'mon, really? 10 all the way!

5) I want to write more action films, particularly sweeping adventures, not urban shoot 'em ups.

Re: In Search Of Talented Writers

My name is Cordell Garrett. I live, way, way, out in the boon sticks of North Carolina, actually a little country area called Bertie County. My dream is to see my television projects on screen entertaining millions. I have even written novels that I would love to have optioned for projects. I am half blind with limited resources but a big imagination. I can type very fast and I'm looking for steady work as a screenplay writer. My ultimate goal is earn enough money so that I can relocate to the city where I can have the services I need at my house. I am strongest when it comes to science fiction, fantasy and regular dramas. I'm very weak when it comes to comedy pieces. I rate my writing at a six.

I would really like to get a chance to write a comedy. I have some comedic ideas but just don't have the confidence as I do in other areas.

I'm a Sundance Screenwriters Lab Finalist who has received four offers to finance my project in the new year. I've won or placed in eleven major screenplay competitions, including the Motion Picture Academy’s Nicholl Fellowship, the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab, the American Film Institute's Outstanding Screenplay Award, the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards, the Chesterfield Film Company's Writer's Film Project, and the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference. I've also won awards in directing, including the prestigious FOCUS Award for my film The Other Side ([sign in to see URL]), and was trained as a director by Delia Salvi, one of Lee Strasberg’s most respected disciples and a member of the famed Actors Studio.

Shawn Woods checking in. I like to watch sci-fi and fantasy but I am best at writing urban romantic comedies.
2) I am a visceral writer with realistic dialogue.
3) Two unpopular teens explore outrageous ways to propel themselves up their high school's social ladder.
4) I would say that I'm a 9.
5) I would like to write more urban and diverse dramas with occasional comedic relief.

Re: In Search Of Talented Writers

Please see a short resume pasted below, with loglines from some of my latest screenplays.

I'm a produced, award-winning screenwriter, published novelist, former motion picture development exec, and author of books and DVDs on screenwriting.

I have no favored genre, partly because over the years I've been parachuted into feature scripts from every genre. I allow the story concept to dictate the genre.

In the last year I've written two book adaptations, an animated feature for a Chinese studio, and a feature rewrite for a Canadian production company, all for a six figure income.

Thanks.
